As the summer sun shines brightly, it's crucial to take extra care of your skin and overall well-being.
For those of us going through the heat wave right now, you might be feeling a little dull. The heat and humidity can take a toll, but with the right self-care routine, you can stay fresh, healthy, and confident. Here are some top self-care tips and essential items everyone should consider for the summer season.
Why It Matters:Staying hydrated is vital for your skin and overall health. Dehydration can lead to dry skin, fatigue, and even heatstroke. (I had heatstroke once and I literally thought I was going to die.)
Tip: Carry a reusable water bottle and aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. Infuse your water with fruits like lemon or cucumber for added flavor and benefits. I like to brew a batch of green tea and keep it in the fridge, add some to a glass of water with some ice and you’ll be feeling refreshed instantly!
Why It Matters: Prolonged sun exposure can cause sunburn, premature aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer. I personally love being in the sun, but it stops being fun once you get burned and have to avoid it at all costs, so be safe and avoid uncomfortable burns.
Tip: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply it generously on all exposed skin, and reapply every two hours, especially if you're swimming or sweating. Personally, I like to mix powdered zinc oxide with coconut oil and apply a thick layer to spots I’m likely to burn, like my nose and shoulders. Which makes me look a little nutty, but it works!
Why They Matter: Witch hazel wipes are a fantastic addition to your summer skincare routine. They help cleanse the skin, reduce inflammation, and control oil production, keeping your face fresh and clear.
Tip: Use witch hazel wipes in the morning and evening, or after workouts to remove sweat and dirt. They're also great for calming skin irritations and refreshing your face on-the-go. These wipes from Pharma-C are a great item to have on hand, leaving you refreshed despite how sweaty you really are.
Why It Matters: Even in the summer, your skin needs moisture. A lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer can keep your skin hydrated without feeling heavy.
Tip: Look for a moisturizer with added SPF for an extra layer of sun protection. Apply it after cleansing your face in the morning and before bed.
Why It Matters:Sweating is inevitable during summer, and a good body wash can help you feel clean and invigorated.
Tip: Choose a body wash with natural ingredients like mint or eucalyptus for a cooling effect. Shower after activities that make you sweat to prevent body odor and skin issues.
Why It Matters:Open-toe shoes and sandals are popular in summer, making foot care essential.
Tip: Exfoliate your feet to remove dead skin and prevent calluses. Use a foot cream to keep them soft and hydrated. Don’t forget to trim your nails regularly and keep them clean. Nobody wants to suck on a crusty toe!
